Be one of the first to stay in one the most unique home rentals in the Berkshires. This 3-bedroom, 2 bathroom pinwheel-shaped, shingled guest cottage designed in 1965 by noted modernist architect, Ulrich Franzen, The Folly sits on 300 acres of fields, meadows and woodlands overlooking a wildlife pond with unparalleled views of Mt. Greylock. The house contains original furnishings and artwork from the mid-century with thoughtful updates to make it a stunning blend of history, art and design, all meticulously cared for and maintained by Trustees of Reservations.
The House:
The Folly welcomes you starting with a retro style kitchen upgraded with modern appliances and a large round dining table for 6. Step down into the conversation seating area backlit by a rounded dome-shaped wall where you can sit beneath a famous hanging mobile. On the other side of the living room, find another large built-in seating area that looks out onto the back deck area and pond.
Down the hall are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. 2 Bedrooms have queen-size beds and in the primary, a king. 2 Bathrooms both feature all original fixtures including a tub/shower combo.
This property has been preserved by The Trustees of Reservations after it was generously given by the original owners. While it has undergone some renovations to upgrade the comfort level (including new upholstery, window treatments, kitchen appliances, beds and mattresses) it is purposely “vintage” to maintain its historical integrity. Please realize the Folly’s vintage “flaws” like original bathrooms and some watermarks on the walls and carpet are what makes it a unique and historic stay.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire house and immediate garden areas surrounding it. 4 miles of walking trails on the Field Farm grounds are open to guests and the public to enjoy.
